Terraced Garden
The brief was to simplify and unify the garden, encompassing recent additions to the house, retaining the views towards the Ashdown Forest and create a larger level lawn.
New terraces were created, using sandstone from the recently re-opened sandstone quarry in West Hoathly. The top terrace was put to lawn, edged with Folgate Lavender on three sides, and a herbaceous border forming the fourth side.
Steps lead down from the croquet lawn to a newly rejuvenated swimming pool, decked in red cedar, surrounded by swaying Stipa tenuissima, looking through two Japanese maples down through the paddocks and beyond.
